Slack service and costly delays

I bank with Absa and took out an overdraft last month. On the 20th of November, I contacted the call centre to request they cancel it. (A process that requires airtime, personal time and patience - one has to navigate a nightmare labyrinth of telephonic selection pathways, contend with a retarded biometric voice authentication bot and answer a rather lengthy list of security questions before speaking to an agent). At the end of it all, I was informed that it would take a couple of days for the cancellation to take effect. So I waited. On day 6 still no deduction was made from my account so I wrote an email to the action line to find out what was happening. I received an automatic response from them saying that due to covid I would only be assisted on the 1st of December. (Action line is a misnomer). I waited and on the 1st I received a call from the bank, asking me to come in to sign something, (you see the recorded telephonic instructions, an written email, the security questions and the biometric voice authentication system wasnt enough). I explained that I was unable to do so, and I was once again assured that by the end of day, the overdraft would be cancelled. (I've added the extra star to my rating because the consultants were super amicable). It is now the 3rd of December, exactly 2 weeks from the day I first cancelled the overdraft and still no deductions.

Everyday that goes by interest is added to the amount, so it benefits the bank to delay the cancellation. It could be really rotten service too, of course, who knows, I'll leave that up to who ever reads this to decide. Either way, I'm not filled with trust and confidence in Absa right now. I hope this is resolved soon.

So, quick update... Absa contacted me. They said they will only be able to attend to the issue on the 10th of December. 20 days after the day I cancelled this overdraft, everyday incurring more and more interest...

Another update: I finally managed to get to the bank to sign the form, only to discover that the overdraft has already been cancelled. I had misunderstood the process. My humble apologies, Absa and thank you to all the super friendly consultants who patiently assisted me.
