Ridiculous ABSA account closing fee and the IDIOTIC pin system

I have been a customer with ABSA since 2004. On the 2nd of October 2017, I had to close my account with them and move on to a capitec bank due to the ridiculous charges I received for an account I barely use. Today, I went into the Bellville branch to close both my cheque account and credit card account. I was informed that I could only close my credit card account via telephone. I was given a closing account fee of R300 for my cheque account with no breakdown as to what the amount was for, keep in mind I have not used this account since the end of month August. Nonetheless, I paid and my cheque account was closed.

I hurried to my office to cancel my credit card and used my office phone to make the call. I needed my credit card number to get through to a consultant after which I was told that my pin was invalid and that I need to make the call from the registered cell phone. I have never activated my telephonic pin so this should be a non-issue. I made the expensive call from my cell phone and waited online for ages. I was asked tons of security questions only to be told to return to the branch to pay a 39 rand.

This will be my mission for tomorrow. I will pay ABSA to get out of my life!!
