Refusing to close my cheque account

I have not been working since September I had a few debit orders that went off my accounts they chatlrged me R2200 for those unpaid debit orders I got my pension funds and went to Absa to ask them to stop my cheque account the lady advised me to open a savings account I stressed that they close my account they said I need to tell the guys that debit my account to stop with the debit orders I told them they told them but they told me that they can't stop the debit order the lady said no she can't cancel my cheque account. A month later I got a call from absa telling me I owe them R3000 I asked them how come when I told them to close the account and even on the recorded line I told them to stop it since the has not been any money coming in since September. More than 3 times I made it clear on the phone that they must close the account next thing I get a letter telling me I owe them R7000 for what?? Why are they refusing to close the account to make a quick buck from me.********.I lost my job when I used to bank with Fnb within two months of no income they automatically closed it.But Absa wants to reap me off nonsense
