Refund and write off this credit granted due to your negligence
My mother took out a Student loan in 2015/2016 for my brother. She was unemployed but earning Government Pension Fund. Her application was approved and she has been servicing the loan from then. Part of the T&C of a student loan is that only interest must be paid during the course of study and the repayment of the capital/principal debt must begin 6-12 months after the studies have been completed. However this was not the case as to date my mother is still servicing the loan by paying for interest. My mother has been unemployed since 2012 and I believe at that time her pension was about R2000. I was surprised when she said the application was approved as she did not have a good credit profile and was behind on her retail store accounts. She was struggling to make ends meet but ABSA saw an opportunity to burden her even further. It is sickening how you take advantage of the poor, elderly and financially uneducated. Her current payment to ABSA is R505 (bread taken out of her mouth). With that being done you managed to hand her account over because you claim the money is not enough. That’s because she never afforded the loan from the onset! The clueless attorneys at Tsebane are never able to give us a straight response when we inquire, they are us much clueless as ABSA.
This is just standard procedure as before I take it up to the Ombud. I know I would need to try and give you a chance to act like you tried resolving this. This case is a nice example of RECKLESS lending and contravening the National Consumer Protection Act. I am so glad that acts such as FAIS have come into play because gone are the days where you push sales and neglect the customer’s needs and truly assess affordability.
I urge you to respond sensibly as this would make a trendy story on social media and with the Ombudsman.

In addition to my complaint I asked for the following:
1. Please provide paid up letter 2. Please also provide proof that Credit bureau status has been updated accordingly. 3. Closing balance showing when the loan was paid up and how much was paid in total.
I have been in contact with Pravesh Bejay and he always promises to call me back. I guess Hellopeter is the only medium used for responsive communication.
