Red tape at Absa

I app**** to ABSA to access the difference between what I owe on my bond and what it is registered for. My applicatio was declined because my monthly expenses were too close to my income. I am self employed for almost twenty years and receive seven "salaries" on a monthly basis from my customers. R 23000.00 of my monthly expenses consists of Retirement Annuity payments, all or part of which I could cancel at any time should I need to. I also have a fair amount of money in Retirement Annuities, of which I could use a part to take a pension if I needed to suplement my income.

I am talking about a repayment of around R 2000.00 per month. I am told that my income and expenditure have to be fed into the computer because of the National Credit Act and that the fact that a large portion of my expenditure is discressionary, does not make any difference.

What annoys me, is the fact that one cannot get to speak to anyone who could look at the cold facts and make a reasonable decision. It appears that there are certain boxes which need to be ticked and if one does not conform exactly to what is in the "book", then no one is prepared to look any further, despite ones credit history and years with the bank.
