Re: Just another Lewis...

<div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">Last month I paid the final amount due to ABSA for my personal loan.</div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"> </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">I then sent a mail to them via their customer portal & requested that any/insurance must be cancelled.</div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"> </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">Their response was that I needed to do this at their physical bank. I went to Delmas branch & asked the customer service representative to cancel any/all insurance as I no longer had any credit facilities with ABSA (that including ABSA terminating my overdraft facilities)</div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"> </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">I asked if this meant any/all insurances were stopped & received an affirmative confirmation.</div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"> </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">Imagine my surprise when I see an internal debit order for R29. This for 2 reasons:- </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"> </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">1.) I specifically gave in<span style="font-size: 10pt;">structions; in person; at their branch; to cancel any/all insurance with or related to ABSA.</span></div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"> </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">2.) They are debitting me for a service which is not related to my financial status i.e. having no credit facilities with ABSA, I am baffled & stunned that this credit life insurance debit is being paid. </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"> </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">This sails very close to the Lewis ruling of selling insurance to people who could in no circumstances use the insurance.</div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"> </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">I will be putting in a dispute with the banking ombudsman & the insurance ombudsman for investigation & punitive measures if possible. </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"> </div> <div dir="ltr" style="color: #000000; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px; font-variant-ligatures: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">As such & given that ABSA (&/or hellopeter) would be more fami**** than I am with regards the 2 regulatory bodies, I (1) inform ABSA of the reason for my complaint (2) request a complaints reference no.</div>
