R2124 debit for bankfees on a private cheque account

An (minimum wage) employee of ours got debited R2124.53 for bankfees. When he went into the bank he was told it is bankfees. 1) How can a bank allow a person earning minimum wage to open a cheque account with such high bankfees? 2) How can a bank customer be treated so ill that he is basically scolded and told that he has no rights to query bankfees? We would appreciate some assistance from ABSA with regards to the matter in either explaining the debit with more detail or refunding the debit.
