Problems in opening a business account for NPO
I am on the board of directors of a non-profit organisation (FWC welfare and development), and having decided to open a bank account, the board thought that ABSA would be helpful enough to assist us with this. After applying and sending in all required documentation, we (3 board members) had arranged for a meeting to finalise the account on Friday, 6 March 2015 at 8:30.
Upon arrival, we were greet by Aneesa Abrahamse who had informed us that she had moved the meeting to 2pm as she had an important client coming in at 9am. When we opposed the change (as this was the only time we could be there), she had informed us that our behaviour was embarrassing, and imp**** that we were imposing (on our own meeting time).
After a 15 minute debacle (where she would only speak to one board member and blatantly ignore the others), she finally decided to assist us.
The process was quick but filled with many snide comments about how things would have been easier if we had come at a more appropriate time.
It has been over two weeks, and the NPO bank account is still not opened. We have called 3 times and only been met with excuses by Ms Abrahamse.
Is this a general treatment for NPOs?
