POPI Act violations - FICA documents not retained

Absa has blocked the account of a Body Corporate on several occasions because of personal documents required as required by FICA. This has prevented the Body Corporate from paying beneficiaries. Documents were initially provided to the local Howick branch who sent through the required documents to Ms. Mazibuko. This happened on two occasions. Then it was blocked again and enquiries were made as to why. Same documents were provided again through the Howick branch to Shaheen. The account was blocked again a month later and attempts were made to contact Shaheen. It was established he had left the bank. Was put through to Ms. Mazibuko who advised the documents were not clear. Documents that had been photocopied and scanned by Absa staff. Required IDs and proof of addresses were scanned and provided. Nothing was heard. Now in November when trying to pay beneficiaries found account was blocked because of FICA. Sent an e-mail to Ms. Mazibuko as well as SMSs to her mobile. No response. After several attempts to get resolution involved the Absa Action Line. Automated response was received from the Action Line (twice) after e-mail follow-up was sent to Ms. Mazibuko.
