Poor Service at Absa
On Monday 08/02/2021 I went to Absa bank having made a prior arrangement to exchange 10c 20c and 50c coins for note. I phone the Glen branch the Friday before and the person on the other side assured me that it’s no problem I must only make sure to split it accordingly. At Absa, I stand in the queue for about 45 minutes only to be told by Sheila Mphahlele that they do not exchange coins but she can deposit it into my account if I have one? Now we all know that on the inside of every bank account there is a magician with a magic wand that makes an amount such as what I wanted to deposit disappear into thin air. I tried to reason with her by telling her they are legally obliged to exchange the coins. She told me I am wasting my time and that I can dispute the matter with their branch manager as it is their policy not to exchange coins for notes. I did not take up this offer of talking to their manager as it would’ve been a further waste of my time judging by the arrogance she displayed, as I actually turned back from the door just to get her name, and then I notice that she did not wear a name batch but she gladly wrote it on a piece of paper for me. Long story short I went to FNB where I was assisted but not before a friendly argument. The teller told me they can exchange the coins but at R10 per thousand rands. ‘’Luckily it's only R230.00 I said’’ by which he smilingly rep**** the same rule applies. With my R230.30 I left the branch thinking to myself FNB you lived up to your ‘’HOW CAN WE HELP YOU’’ Slogan. My apology to the teller who assisted me as I did not take his name for commendation, however, my till assist slip no was 147 if that of any help to get the praise through to him? Thanks, FNB.
