Poor service Absa Bank

Greetings Hello Peter

I would like to share my experience of trying to get assistance from Absa, and the poor reception I received at their local depot on Monday 09/06/2025

Last week I received documents from Absa via e-mail. I tried to open them with various combinations of my ID number or date of birth. Nothing worked.

I copied the documents onto a memory stick and went to the local Absa Depot in Pick and Pay Centre, Tara Road, Bluff for assistance.

When I got there a gentleman told me that he could not read anything form a memory stick and that I must go to the local internet café and print the documents. I asked him how was I supposed to do that if I could not open them. He then took me to a telephone and told me to speak to someone, I explained to him as I did not know what was in the documents how can I explain my problem to someone else. He left me and attended to other clients. I felt that that was very poor service from that person at Absa.

I left the store and went home and tried to contact Absa via their web page. Each of the listed numbers did not work and eventually I found an e-mail address and I sent a request explaining what had happened and asked for the Customer Services Department’s phone number or contact address and it is not on their web site.

I received the reply, see below, quoting the reference C-***3. The message states that I will receive feedback within 48 hours. Needleless to say there was no feedback, Yesterday I sent a reminder and did not get an acknowledgement of receipt,

Please can you of someone in South Africa please advise me how to get assistance to open and understand what these documents are about. Absa is obviously not interested in my problem.

I feel that staff in the Depots should attend customer service courses to assist the elderly who might not be as ofay of the new security systems as we should.

Please advise

Robert Armstrong
