To take advantage of a good fixed term interest rate 2 years ago, on a lump sum investment, I first had to open an ABSA Flexi current account as I bank with a different bank. From the current account my deposit was transferred to a Fixed Deposit account. However, the Flexi current account remained open - I should have been advised that if I was not going to use the account (which I wasn't as all I wanted was a fixed term deposit account) it should be closed to avoid attracting a service fee. Upon my deposit's maturity I was advised that a) the current account had been made dormant and b) I was required to pay R633 in service fees which would be automatically deducted from my deposit when I moved the lump sum to a different bank that offered a better interest rate. I did receive monthly statements for the current account, all of which showed a nil balance, so where was the 'service', especially as the account was dormant? Surely someone could have picked up the phone? Not content with having the use of my money for two years, they also want to charge me for a non-existent service. Another instance of being **********.
