Payment for bad customer service

Ever since I opened this Absa cheque account there has been problem after problem. Month after month my account was blocked for no reason what so ever, every month i had to go into the bank to have my card unblocked because it was routine for the card to be blocked on a monthly basis. One night my child need diapers and I could not even purchase diapers because my card was blocked and can only be unblocked at the bank. I was so furious i went into the bank to dispute this matter and the lady at the counter told me she cannot understand why there is a block on my card. I was also told that I had the old card and needed the new chip card, which i was given and the same day stood in line to pay and had a blocked card. Since January I have changed banks and I have chosen not to let any funds go into this account because I could never access them. Absa could never give me a reason for mu card being blocked up until today so now that i want to actually close my account and cut all ties with Absa the call centre agent advised me that Absa has closed the account in April however it has been closed with a balance of R2311.56 that i need to pay for the service fees of the account. I am furious that this bank who only helped make my banking experience horrible expects me to pay service fees on an account that never worked. I have heard quite a few people left Absa for the exact reason that there were always issues with their card.

I would never recommend this bank to anybody who wants hassle free banking. I refuse to pay this amount because Absa offered me no service.

Dear Mishkaah

The same complaint was logged by yourself in February2017 case reference ***. An email response was sent to you and you confirmed receipt of the email, further to that you have responded by saying you will create time to visit the branch.

When you took a decision not to deposit funds into this account you did not provide for the debit orders that were running into this account and they kept on being unpaid.

Kindly take note that should there be no funds to provide for your account the bank charges and that resulted into your account being on a debit balance.

Since the account was not serviced anymore the bank decided to close it so that it does not incur further charges. I have looked into the notes on system where the collection department made contact with you and you said you will go into the branch.

Unfortunately at this stage we are unable to assist you further.
