Pathetic Response from ABSA re international transfer of money
I have being trying to resolve a matter regarding a transfer from the UK to SA. I contacted ABSA on 4 November 2019 and am stilling struggling to get the matter resolved. I have e-mailed them atleast 10 times - all they do is close the query even though it is not resolved. It is impossible to contact them via telephone as the number(s) just rings, takes you to a recording??, or you hold on forever (held on for over 50 minutes the one time and then gave up). They did send me a reference number and sent an instruction to visit a Western Union branch which I did. Only to be told by Western Union that the reference number given by ABSA is not on their tracking system. I have repeatedly informed them that I am in the UK and therefor cannot physically go to the bank. I am scheduled to return to SA in the first week of December and now do not have enough funds to pay for my return ticket! Oh and by the way they charge over 3% more on the current exchange rate for each time you withdrawer funds. Pathetic service and once back in SA I will close my account with ABSA.

To add insult to injury I previously reported that there was an error on my credit card (the credit card was duplicated with two different account numbers). One credit card has transactions when I pull a statement. The "other" credit card has no transaction listed but still being charged to settle both credit cards (the one does not exist). ABSA have now "settled" both credit cards by deducting money from my account which I NEVER agreed to??. So now I am in a foreign country with money which cannot be traced by Western Union and ABSA AND money has being deducted from my account for a duplication on my credit card! Really could it get any worse .... I am sure that I am not the only client who has more than one complaint.
