Owe Admin Fees on bank account I'm closing - ABSA threatens me with my Credit Record!

August 26th I visited the Sandton branch and requested debit orders to be cancelled, due me in the process of moving over to FNB.

I contacted the vendors and cancelled debit orders on their end, and then went to the bank to delete debit orders on the account that was in the pipeline (proof and all).

Today a Moello from ABSA contacted me and advised me my account is in arrears with R1500.00 (cheque account). I explained to her the charges are due to their own neglect by not cancelling debit orders correctly and those that were 'in the pipeline' still processed after my warnings (in the branch to delete them all).

With this (and mainly the reason for this note) Moello threatened that the 'admin fees will impact my credit record'.

It seems to be an ABSA go-to. Whenever they do not get you to jump as high as they like, they threaten you with your credit record. If I knew opening an ABSA account will be directly link to my credit record, irrespective if I've got loans or not, I might have appreciated that little big disclaimer upfront to make an informed decision.

Asking Moello to explain this tidbit to me, I was basically told to go to the branch if I need more information. Last time I was at the branch Mr Khoza told me that 'he cannot deal with me' when I posed similar questions. Which begs the questions, are your staff trained in the jobs they are paid to do because there is a MASSIVE lack of knowledge when it comes to basic banking questions? It's a pillar-to-post scenario and no real answer.

However, I'm only but a small tine fish in a big pond. My rants are going on death ears so expect nothing.
