Online and general customer service

Dear ABSA,

I've tried all forums to try get assistance with regards to my problem, so hopefully I can get some assistance here! In terms on the forums I've tried: Facebook (they just logged a complaint with your Absa "action line"), e-mails to the Platinum Cheque account team (which was a complete waste of my time), calls to the Platinum Cheque account team (Confused agent who transferred me to sales), e-mails to your ABSA "action line team" (No tangible feedback on what is being done to assist me)... all yielding next to no result!!!!

I app**** for a Platinum Cheque account about 2 weeks ago via your online platform and a few days later I received a call to say that the card was ready and I could collect it at any branch of my choice, which I opted for the Greenstone ABSA branch.

The day after the call, I went to ABSA Greenstone, stood in the Customer Service queue, only to be told that my card was not ready (as they could not find it). I was also asked a suite of questions regarding who called me etc. This frustrated me as i received a call, which you could probably find, telling me that I could collect my card.

The manager of customer service then mentioned that I can link the cheque account on my existing savings card and that it would be simpler to manage and that when I am at a POS, that I can select which account I wanted funds to be extracted from. Based on her explanation, I authorised that my accounts be linked. Bear in mind that all my money was still in my savings account and i had 0 funds in the cheque account.

I then left the bank, as a relatively happy client. I then went shopping for my daily consumables and when I was at the POS, guess what happened? My card was declined (as the cheque account was set as my default account, which had 0 funds) and I COULD NOT choose which account I wanted to extract funds from, as per what I was told by the customer service manager. Apparently not all POS machines have the option for a person to choose between using funds from their cheque or savings account. This left me embarrassed at the till and I had to run to the nearest bank to draw money in order to pay for my goods.

Now this is my request to ABSA, and I think it is quite simple: I want the Platinum Cheque Account delinked from my savings account and a physical Cheque card issued to me, as it should have been originally. I also want you to note, that I have money in my cheque account and I do not want this to cause complications and for my money to go missing! I want no more and no less. You have my FICA documents and everything else that you need to complete this request without me having to go into an ABSA branch. I expect feedback on this ASAP.

Alternatively, I will consider your lack of feedback as the go ahead to start looking for another, more competent, service provider.

Hi Daphne,
