Ongoing ‘Statement Fee Charge’!!!

Absa Complaint Reference No. C***1. on 21 May 2020 I spoke to Tshepang at the Absa Complaints Department and informed her I am having issues with my tax free savings account charging R32 every month for a ‘statement fee‘ without me ever requesting such!!! Keep in mind that the account has been on a zero balance for quite some time. At the end of March 2020 I called Absa to request to have this account closed since I no longer had any use for it. The agent I spoke to at the time (I unfortunately did not get her name) informed me I would have to go close the account at a branch, of which makes absolutely no sense to me since I opened the account online. Why inconvenience the customer who wishes to simply close a tax free savings account by forcing them to “go to a branch” to have this done?? Low and behold COVID-19 hit and the national lockdown meant I couldn’t go anywhere, let alone to a branch to “close a tax free savings account”. That being said, this strange “statement fee” was charged to this account beginning April, then again beginning May, then again beginning June, and I think you get the picture. Why would I request “statements“ every month on an account that I have not been using and that has had a zero balance since end of March 2020?? For what purpose would this serve, especially considering there is no money in that account??!! This “charge” hasn’t stopped ever since and it seems as though Absa is not prepared to do anything about it. So should I assume Absa is not willing to resolve this issue? Should I close all of my Absa accounts, withdraw all of my money from my other Absa investment account and go elsewhere in fear of being charged every month for ‘statement fees’ I never requested in the first place?? For all I know, I may have been charged this ‘statement fee’ every month for as long as I have had the account open!! It seems Absa has not taken my complaint seriously at all as I have not heard from the Absa Complaints Department to this day! So much for good customer service Absa.
