Now ive seen it all
On 22/8/2018 i posted the following on hello peter" "desperately frustrated
I have been a customer of absa since 2000. I had a credit card with them and credit card protection insurance. I called to get forms as I had a stroke and have a neurodegenerative condition. I got the forms. Within a couple of days my credit card balance showed as zero.( yet i hadnt submitted forms). Then absa began deducting 2000, 10000, then the following minth 10000. In total Its probably 45000 from my income protector which is not a salary... I have emailed, phoned, been to the branch, emailed, complaints resolutions etc etc.... nobody can help me...To me this is theft particularly as i have never been contacted. I had cover for issues like this...i dont get alot as it is and a deduction of 10000 is huge!!!i dont think a bank can deduct if its not a salary....i have medical proof, proof of deductions and am considering going to the press because this has been going on since january last year"......Absa responded saying we should contact the attorneys as they were the ones doing this and in the end we were refunded 8000/10 000 but no mention of the other 35000...more importantly they would only refund the 8000 on condition that my husband pay 2000 a month to pay the balance of my credit card despite the fact that i had credit life protection on that credit card.... then today he got a legal letter from absa's lawyers saying he is liable for 70000!!! I dont understand why the balance wasnt covered by credit life. Why i wasnt refunded the full -+ 45 000 that was taken over a period of time from my monthly income protector...if they were entitled to take it why cant they keep taking.... it isnt legal so instead they go to my husband and make him accountable sespite the fact that he is currently not working ... we have an antenuptial and my debts dont pass to him. Legally I know they cannot take 45000 but their lawyers seem to be allowed to do whatever they feel like. I feel its right for them to use my credit life plan to settle my credit card and then using medical evidence( reports with dates and detail) reimburse me the -+45 ********** =37 000 that they took from my monthly income protector over a period of time
