Notifyme Subpar Rollout, no opt out, and revert requires in branch presence
The manner in which Absa Bank is implementing the notify me change to in-app notifications is unsatisfactory. It is unacceptable that there was no opportunity to opt out of the change, and that the only recourse for doing so is through an in-person visit to a branch. The feature is problematic as it mandates signing into the app, whereas previously messages were available offline and on mobile devices without the need for login, and no consideration was given for this alteration. The primary concern is that being compelled to go into a branch to undo a digital change in this era constitutes a subpar customer experience. Furthermore, there is a sense of aggravation because it seems that the bank is implementing this alteration with the knowledge that customers are unlikely to switch banks, which suggests an abuse of power.
