Not doing enough to prevent *****

In the past when I have done an overseas transaction on my credit card, before honouring the transaction, the bank has telephoned me to get confirmation that the transaction is indeed valid. I thought that this was standard practice. Recently, someone hacked into my credit card and used it in India to buy over R22 000 worth of goods. Immediately I discovered this, I telephone the ***** department at ABSA only to be told that they had tried to phone me but could not get hold of me, so they authorised the transactions. This is completely unacceptable to me! In this day and age of massive *****, surely ABSA must have a clear protocol in place in that protects their customers. For example, if a transaction is over a certain value, it has to be cleared telephonically, with no exceptions. This clear and simple procedure seem would go a long way to reduce *****. The current procedure of trying to get hold of the customers and if you cannot, approving the transaction, is simply ludicrous. ABSA is very to keen to offer more credit, but does not have the interests of its customers at hand.
