NO FACILITY TO CLOSE ACCOUNT ONLINE, THEY KEEP ON CHARGING YOU

Please can someone tell me why one can't close your ABSA account online? During the pandemic, I wanted to close the account but could not go into the bank. I was told you HAVE to go into the bank to close it. I have not used this account for almost three years as overseas payments can't go into this account. So here is how they make money out of me. They charge me fees every single month! This accumulates as I don't use the account and then all of a sudden they start phoning you, you owe the bank money! Then I ask them to close it and then they say I have to go into the bank. (Don't have a car by the way). Then you pay the accumulated fees. They don't close the account and then once again the fees start to accumulate again and the whole process starts over again. My question is if you have not used the account for so long, is there not a system that closes your account automatically? All I want is to close the account online and never hear from ABSA again.
