No Africanicity when banking with ABSA
I have been banking with ABSA since 2003 and have a number of products and loans which I have app**** for, settled, paid and taken out over this period of time. Recently I have app**** for the second year's student loan for my daughter. I also have a loan for my son's studies which is currently being paid off. In the past, when applying for a loan, the consultant would ask whether I want to take out additional insurance on the loan, which I decline as I report the loan amount to my broker who insures it under my current risk insurance. I have never opted to take insurance from ABSA.
However, this time I was not asked, but received an email from ABSA on the 4th of February 2022, stating that my request for insurance has been approved! I requested no such thing!
On the 7th of February 2022, I emailed the consultant who assisted me with the application at the Monument Park branch in Pretoria, to enquire about this and was informed as follows: "Credit life is compulsory when it comes to loans. You will need a document stating that you have credit life somewhere else in order to have it removed. You can call *** and listen to the options and they will give you an email to send the document to."
I emailed ABSA ('***ca) on the same day ( 7th of February 2022) with the reference number and requested that they cancel this with immediate effect. I received an automated email from ABSA, dated 7 February 2022, stating that they have received my complaint and will contact me shortly.
To date (16 February), I have not received anything from ABSA confirming receipt of my request to cancel the insurance, nor that they have indeed cancelled the insurance.
I have provided them with proof that the loans are covered under my insurance with Sanlam. I have sent another email to ABSA today.
This is unacceptable. The insurance charge from ABSA is R413,72, whereas my own insurance with Sanlam is much less.
As a single parent, all these costs add up and ultimately becomes unbearable.
I am not a happy ABSA customer
I have sent her the details of my life cover.
I was given a reference number C-***.
At first Nomsa denied that there was credit life insurance taken out on the loan.
Then she changes her story and sends me an application to cancel the insurance, which I completed and returned to her together with my SANLAM policy, stating what amounts I am covered for, which of course includes the loan.
The same information was sent to her again on the 8th of March, via ABSA Group secure mail to which I have not had the courtesy of a reply!
Upon sending yet another email this morning, I get an error message stating the following:
Your message couldn't be delivered The message you sent to *** couldn't be delivered due to: Recipient email server rejected the message."
So ABSA is now rejecting my messages!
I don't need their additional cover, did not ask for it, was not asked if I needed/wanted it, but was simply issued with over R400 additional fees on my loan account! They are not responding, not correcting the mistake on their side, not contacting me and now rejecting my messages.
Please help.
Rather stash your money under your matrass than open any account with ABSA!

I have received a lovely email from Rezona Louw, as you can see in her response above. At least she deemed me worthy of a response, which is more than I can say for Nomsa Dlamini.
Nomsa only responded after I had to be that person again, to post a complaint on Hello Peter.
Thank God for Hello Peter!
Herewith Nomsa's response AFTER my HP post:
"Dear Ms Bascerano We would like to send our sincere apologies for the delay in giving you feedback, Please be advised that the policy will be cancelled after 25 March 2022. We will refund the premium taken on 25 March 2022 and give you feedback once it has all been done. Regards" Nomsa DhlaminiCustomer ExperienceAbsa Life T +***1
Might I remind everyone that her response (which I have put in bold here), states that the policy will be cancelled and the premium returned to me. The problem here is that in her first email response to me, she INSISTS that there is NO credit life insurance issued by ABSA! I emailed ABSA to inform them that I received a letter from them, informing me that my application for credit life insurance has been approved!!! I NEVER ASKED FOR IT, WAS NOT OFFERED IT BY THE CONSULTANT who started all this mess (Thandiwe Shongwe at ABSA Monument Park), so stay away from her too if you don't want to have a heart attack from sheer frustration!
How can Nomsa tell me that I am lying? I sent her to letter from her own bank! I sent my SANLAM proof of cover, and still ABSA will deduct money *******ly from my account!!! Yes! *******ly because you have no right, no permission to deduct that money from my account!
This is how ABSA treats customers who have been with them since 2003.
Dear ABSA, I will be closing my accounts with you and taking my money, policies, loans and every other product and service you make money off, of me, elsewhere. Even if I stash my money under my matrass, it is still better than having to deal with a bank that does not care, very clearly, about its long term, loyal customers and treats them like they are lying.
I wonder how long I will have to wait to get my money back which ABSA is in effect *****ing from me. Who will I have to fight with to get it back. What ******* story will I have to listen to. Who is going to tell me that ABSA did not deduct any money from my account.
Let's see.
I will keep you all posted on the developments as it unfolds.
In the interim, I will open an account in elsewhere so I can close my ABSA accounts. I never want to have anything to do with you again ABSA!!!!!
Good riddance!

Today is the 15/03/2022.
Even though I have informed them in writing the minute I realised THEIR mistake, they will still deduct the money from my account!
How much time to they need to rectify their own mess?! They had more than a month's notice!
In ten days from today they will *******ly, without my consent, without permission, simply TAKE money from my account!! they don't care!
They are *******, people. Nothing other than *******. What would you call it?

"Dear Ms Bascerano Kindly note I am busy with this matter and will give you feedback later. Regards" Nomsa DhlaminiCustomer ExperienceAbsa Life T +***1
Later. Read that again. Later.
I started on this hellish journey with this hellish bank group on 07/02/2022, just so Nomsa can give me feedback "later"
Lovely. Later. Next year?
When is "later", Nomsa?
Now if ever you wanted evidence of how little ABSA cares about clients, this is it. Right here.
Later, everyone!

Just saying.

It is "later" as you so eloquently stated you would revert to me, Nomsa Dhlamini.
I await your response.... later....

I have lodged a formal complaint against you and ABSA with the FSCA. Why don't you escalate THAT?
I am passed believing your false claims of caring about your customers.
You have successfully lost a very long term, since 2003, loyal ABSA client. I regret not leaving ABSA sooner.
Taking my money elsewhere.
