New Credit Card Application

On the 14th of Marc h 2017 I received a call from ABSA Credit Card Division approving my Credit Card Application I did online a couple of days before.

The following Monday (20 March 2017), their couriers, CCD, collected my paperwork (ID Copy, Proof of Address, 3 Months Bank Statements) as was agreed with telephonically with their agent, as well as dropping off my new Credit Card. Initially, I thought, WOW that was quick and painless! That's where this turns into a 2 week battle.

When I called their Credit Card Department on Wednesday, 22 March 2017, at roughly 10:30am, I was informed that they had received my documents from their couriers, and were processing my application, I should call back in a couple of hours to activate my card with them over the phone.

I did just that, I called them later that same afternoon, and was told my documentation was lacking a police stamp (Molatelo Mamaila was the lady who helped me over the phone this time). I understood that this was needed, and went ahead and got said stamp.

On Friday, 24 March 2017, I thought I would skip the 30+ minute "on-hold" music with the ABSA call centre, and go dirctly into a branch. Which I then did, I went into the Glenfair, Pretoria branch where a lady by the name of Edna assisted me. I took my 1 hour lunch break to deal with this issue once and for all. Edna vowed that the application was indeed pending, and told me that the documents I had submitted were insufficient. I needed a "declaration form" from them for my proof of residence (as I get no mail at my home address, addressed to myself). I got the form filled in over the weekend, and went back on Monday, 27 March 2017 to finally complete my application, or so I thought.

Once again, I handed in all my documents, third time lucky I had hoped???

Edna, processed all the documents, updated my FICA status, to which I received an SMS stating the same fact. Edna then informed me that this would be sorted out and my card will be activated in 24-48 hours. I left the branch happy.

I gave ABSA bank the whole week, a total of 96 hours to activate my account before I went into the branch again on Friday, 31 March 2017.

Edna again assisted me, questioning as to why this hasn't been finalised yet??? I had the same question.

Her supervisor Dawn called the Credit Card Department and was told my documents had been lost, and my application was again on hold. Edna then recalled the documents I had given her on the Monday previously, and re-submitted them. I was told, once again, that this will take another 24-28 hours to clear.

I have now received a bill from ABSA Credit Card Division for a card that I cannot even use yet, as well as spent over R200.00 in airtime calling your Credit Card Department, not to mention the petrol my card uses to get to the branch each time.

When will I get resolution???

To Dawn and Edna at Glenfair, Pretoria branch, this review is not about you, it's about your collegues at Credit Card Division. You two have done nothing but try to assist me since I walked into your branch on Mondy, and I thank you for your patience.

ABSA Credit Card Division, this review is about you! How does a company "lose" personal and financial documents??? Come on guys.

I have been a loyal ABSA Bank customer for over 14 years, and this is the thanks I get?

Sort this out!

I have once again sent my documents to your agent in the call centre.

Her name is Janine Van Der Merwe, I sent the documents at 09:13am.

She told me she will escalate my application, as she too cannot understand why my application has taken this long to be sorted out.

She's forwarded my application to her team leader named Solomon as well to speed up the process.

Regards,

Shawn
