After dealing with Lebogang from the estates department my initial query was resolved. My late fathers estate has been registered at the South Gauteng high court. This was done on the 12th of August. I attempted to contact Mpho who was assisting me when Lebo was on leave. I phoned and inquired about the next step to obtain the letter of authority needed to close my fathers account. I was told to contact the Magistrate court to follow up. NO ONE ANSWERS A PHONE AT GOVERNMENT INSTITUTES. No contact persons details provided just a generic number to phone. So the estate is now floating around somewhere. i have no idea if anyone is even dealing with this. I will not risk going to the court house in JHB city centre to follow up. I visited our local court house and they indicated that they cannot assist as the estate was registered in the South Gauteng high court. Meaning I have to put in a days leave, and spend the day at court to obtain a SIMPLE LETTER OF AUTHORITY. Risk my safety to go to the city centre.
I had to obtain a similar letter of authority to claim against a funeral policy my late mother had. This was done in 1 day. As I visited my local court house myself to do this. If i knew this was going to be another lengthy process i would have registered my late fathers estate myself.
ABSA 'helped' with the registration of the estate, however it now feels more like a hindering.
