Misinformation leading to Prejudice
I've banked at ABSA for +- 25yrs, I approached my priority banker for assistance to apply for a student loan and submitted the application forms and necessary support docs, the loan request was for tuition fees, laptop and textbook expenses. I was requested to provide documentation from the learning institution to prove that the laptop was a requirement of the course. Soon thereafter I was told the loan had been approved and received email confirming the amounts to be paid. I went into the branch to sign the contact. The documents were in order and we proceeded to payments. A supervisor Maria Daniels was called to authorise the payments, she looked at the docs and said rudely she would not authorise the laptop expense. She then left the office taking the paperwork with her, I was left alone for 10min on return I was told that the bank only finances laptops that are sourced exclusively from their own supplier, a contravention of free trade practise. At no time up to that point had this been indicated to me and although the loan had been approved for the amount including the cost of the laptop I left without being reimbursed for that cost and I am now out of pocket.
