Marketing of a service that is not already defined.
At the beginning of Oct 2018 I was contacted by an ABSA official offering me a Credit Card reward point system at a nominal fee of + - R23.
Sold on the fact that the big boys PnP, Checkers, Sasol etc were signed in on the system I told the official to "sign me up"
On following up on the lst November as to why had I not be allocated any rand value points on my credit card statement for purchases in Oct. I was told that the system took awhile to kick in and I would only see it reflected on the lst December.
Patience being the essence of accepting the general status quo service (read slow) I said OK.
Unbecoming of my usual transactions I ran up a substantial debit on my Nov credit card statement so was keen to open my internet banking to check my reward rands today (lst December)
An amount of R6.00 took sometime to register in my consciousness in spite of the fact that you would not have to have an investment advisor's diploma to conclude that the return on my R23 monthly debit is < zilch.
I e-mailed immediately to have the debit charge on the reward point system cancelled on my credit card.
Being a restful weekend for many departments an e-mail informed me that I will be contacted on Monday.
I note with interest on ABSA's website that the "new rules" effective in respect of the reward system will now only become effective on the 16th January 2019 with the payouts projected for as late as 28th February 2019.
To sell a reward system which has not already got rules in place before it is marketed to the general public is tantamount to ********* practices; in total contrast to their "bank that services you" ethos.
Thanks but no thanks ABSA. (and besides being ****med out of R46 (OH SORRY - R6.00) the pleasure I take from this is the bank's idea behind the reward system being to recuperate exponentially in the interest of unpaid debits won't work for me because I settle every month what I owe)
The only factor forcing me to stay with ABSA is the hassle involved in changing debit orders but that I also need to now objectively look at.
