Manager lying about name and being charged for an account I'm not using.
I am a student who approached Absa bank at the Bryanston center on William nicol regarding opening a paypal account. The individual who helped me reassured me that the account I opened would accommodate for paypal. This was not the case as I was later told to open an FNB account instead. When I was given this advice by an Absa staff member, my account was not closed. I thereafter was charged outrageous fees. I received a threat today during lockdown whereas the SA governement has said that debt collectors may not harrassment during this national crisis. I am unemployed and was shocked to see I was owing R673.70 for not using my account at all in the last few months. I received a letter today from attorneys despite the coronavirus pandemic financially impacting on all South Africans. Their message read as MR ****. Please call us on *** re your ABSA account to avoid further action. M Tsebane Att Ref: *****. When this number was called today the man who answered was named Simon who claimed to be the manager slammed the phone down and refused to assist on how much was owed and who the debt collectors were. This kind of behaviour is appalling especially since I had received no prior confirmation that this had been sent to attorneys. I therefore find Simon's behaviour appealing and when I called the number after he slammed the phone down the next individual stated that no one by the name of Simon works there so I was **** to at approximately 13:15pm May 15th.
