Journal Debit RCCS BOS J

After Absa deducted R8218,84 from my cheque account, without any notice, I've spent the day being sent from pillar to post, trying to a.) Receive a justification for the deduction, and b.) Attempting (without success) to get my money returned to me. Having read pages and pages of similar complaints from Absa clients here, and on similar complaints boards, I realised that there are many unhappy Absa customers that are having to grovel and beg - an absolute assault on their dignity. So I decided to research the topic further.

Banks have been abusing "common-law set off" to recoup moneys owed to them by clients. Meaning that they could, without any notice given to clients, practically clean out your bank account, leaving us, their clients, destitute. No matter the circumstances. Whether you've fallen on hard times, or been retrenched - it makes no difference to your bank. They are devoid of any humanity. They will not "give you a break" till you're back on your feet. How you feed your children, how you keep the lights on, are of no concern to them.

Until earlier this year, when the High Court ruled that such practices are *******. Please see: http://www.derebus.org.za/high-court-rules-that-the-common-law-principle-of-set-off-is-not-applicable-to-debts-arising-from-credit-agreements-regulated-by-the-nca/

In summary: Banks are, by law, no longer allowed to deduct money from your account without a.) your consent, and b.) without you agreeing to an amount that you are able to afford.

All of these "Journal Debit RCCS BOS J" deductions are ********, unless you have given your consent.

After having learnt this, I again contacted Absa and insisted on speaking with a supervisor. I pointed out the High Court ruling, and to my aghast, the supervisor, without having to consult an authority on the matter, acknowledged that their actions were indeed *******, and I was assured that the money would be repaid into my account by morning.

I am writing this review for two reasons: 1.) To publicly condemn Absa for, knowingly, engaging in ******** conduct. If I had not stumbled across the High Court ruling, Absa would've gotten away with what amounts to *****. And 2.) To notify any other clients that may find themselves in similar circumstances.

We, the consumers, are protected. Do not allow Big Business to bully and degrade you. Stand up for yourself, because your cannot rely on Absa to protect your rights. They will rob you blind, knowing full well that they are in breach of the law.
