I wrote a review on Hello Peter on 14 September, complaining about the fact that Absa is not getting back to me on a certain matter. I then immediately got a response from Absa and was, needless to say, VERY impressed, faith restored. Then this happened (a day after they responded to my review): ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Email from Absa:
Dear Ilene Slabber
With reference to the above and more specifically your complaint addressed to the Social Media department.
Please accept our sincere apology on any inconvenience caused and the delay in resolving the matter.
Summary of Request:
You state in your complaint that you On 1 September, you made an EFT payment into a wrong Absa bank account. I immediately realized your mistake and called the Call Centre. After almost 20 minutes, you hung up as you were simply not willing to spend any more airtime. You then decided to send an email directly to the EFT Payment Inquiries email address. Since then, you’ve followed up twice (once per week) and still no feedback
Our Response:
Please note that your complaint was referred to our Dispute department for investigation and feedback. Carly Loxton from our Disputes advised our office that she tried to make contact with the third party on 15 September 2020 on the cell at 09:22 but the calls were dropped . Please be advised that dispute was unable to assist you with your request.
Due to the stipulations of the Banking Code of Practice, the bank cannot do a correction without the consent of the account holder who received the payment or when there is insufficient funds in the account. Please note that you will have to contact the third party directly to make arrangements to get your payment back.
If you do not know the third party, you need to consult with an attorney to get a court order to compel the specific bank to release the personal information of their client.
With this information you can sue the person for unjustified enrichment.
This is to confirm that your request has been withdrawn from our side.
If you require any other assistance or information, please email our Absa Email Services at ***
Kind Regards

With specific reference to this paragraph in the email above:
"Carly Loxton from our Disputes advised our office that she tried to make contact with the third party on 15 September 2020 on the cell at 09:22 but the calls were dropped"
1. The third part is my friend. She did see ONE missed call from an unknown number (she was in a meeting at the time and could not answer). 2. One missed call (not calls, as stated in the email from Absa) and no voice message? If Carly left a voice message stating that she is trying to reach her and will phone again later, my friend would've known. Or at least she (or the Case Manager, who has my email address) could contact me and let me know to let the third party know she is trying to reach her. No one simply answers a random unknown number anymore, especially not when you're in a work meeting. 3. As I explained from the beginning in my emails to Absa: The "Third party" cannot simply transfer the money back into my account as she closed the account a while ago and don't have access to it anymore. 4. When I received the above email from Absa, I immediately emailed the Specialist Case Manager at his personal email address, explaining that the third party is now aware that Absa is trying to reach her and whether he can please reopen the case number. This was a week ago. I emailed twice. No answer to this day.
I want this issue to be resolved this week still! It's now been 21 days!!!!! And please just let us know when you'll be calling. No one sits and looks at their phones the whole day in case someone from an unknown number calls.
Best regards,
