Tried to log in to my internet banking account (and absa app) and was greeted by a screen informing me that my access has been blocked for "security purposes".
I visited the nearest branch (hereafter referred to as branch 1) on 29 Dec to rectify the issue at which time I was informed that the access was blocked due to the pin being entered incorrectly 3 times.
Firstly, I was not informed of the fact that someone unsuccessfully attempted to access my account (as it was not myself).
Continuing the process to unblock my internet banking I was informed that an update of proof of residence was required. The cellphone statement was not accepted as it did not reflect my full name to match the initials, other documentation being unavailable due to me being on holiday on the other side of the country. Thus, I proceeded to a branch that had a commissioner of oaths.
At branch 2 I had my witness complete the oath and was told the documents had to be processed which may be completed the next day and that I can continue the process at branch 1.
At branch 1 on 29 Dec I attempted to continue the process but was informed that the documents had not yet been processed and I will be contacted once they have.
At branch 1 on 31 Dec I was informed that the FICA documentation had been successfully processed and could continue to unblock the internet banking but was informed that my witness suddenly has power of attorney over my account further delaying the desired result.
The power of attorney was eventually overturned on the same day and the blocking was in the process of being undone, at which time I was informed that the issue had been escalated and access will be restored after 7 days.
Conduct of the employees with whom I was in contact had no issues, but the internal processes that have caused this extensive inconvenience and concern is not acceptable.
