Incorrect information of Missed Payment submitted to credit bureau by Absa BankC
I recently app**** and received a credit card with Absa bank. I agreed for a debit order as a method of payment. I did not receive a Debi check from Absa. In December a month after I received a credit card I received an SMS indicating that I needed to pay the credit card within three days, before it could be considered unpaid. I immediately sent a reply indicating my intention to pay, and I paid on the same day I received the SMS. To my surprise, on 3rd February, I saw on my credit report stating that I missed payment. I immediately visited the branch of Absa to get clarity. They indicated to me that on their side, they do not have a missed payment reflecting ( this is concerning because they are the ones who feed the bureau with information). I asked them to remove the wrong information from the credit report but I am being sent from pillar to post. I am currently being considered for a promotional position and negative credit profile will jeopardize possibilities of getting this position. I am requesting hellopeter to please intervene on my behalf as this matter is urgent and Absa bank is taking time to just give an instruction to credit bureau to remove the missed payment on my profile. Kindly assist. I am in dire need, my livelihood depends on this. Thank you Regards Daniel
1. Absa did not activate the debit order for the credit card that I received in December 2022. I took it upon myself to pay what I thought could be the instalment since at that time I had only used very little amount from it.
2. Today I received a credit card statement from Absa Bank stating that the debit would go off on the 27 of December 2022 (which was declared a public holiday early before 23rd December "the purported statement date".
3. I did not receive any statement via email nor post mail in December 2022 (No proof ).
4. In the telephonic conversations I had with their consultants one of them with reference number (C***) they indicated that there was no record of missed payment on their end (check recorded calls). This is shocking now that the bank turns around and claim that I had missed payment.
5. Only on 3 February 2023 was the debit order instituted and activated for the first credit card (because of my initiative), all the while I expected the debit to go off since 2022 December including January 2023 where I paid yet again without any communication of the amount to pay.
6. Early in January 2023 again I went to Absa bank to increase my limit for credit card, instead I was advised to take the second credit card and only after six months will I be able to combine them.
7. Why did the bank at that time not pick up that I had missed payment? Why did I receive another credit card? Why was it not picked up by the bank that the debit order was not active (for the first credit card) even during the application for the second credit card? I do not see how all of this should now fall on me. I am a customer and it is the duty of the bank to inform me clearly of all the processes.
I am extremely dissatisfied and very disappointed that such a huge brand such as Absa Bank could treat customers in this distasteful manner. I am wondering how many of 'me' are out there.
I refuse to accept the response of Absa Bank showing unwillingness to take responsibility for their poor communication and inefficient consultants and turning around to make all of this my fault.
Absa bank actions is emotionally impacting my life, professionally ruining my career growth and financially affecting potential loans to facilitate my family and kids education.
May Absa Bank please remove the 'missed payment' on my credit profile, it is only the right thing to do.
