Incompetence, Blame games and an entire family suffering because of the ineptness.

It is with great disappointment that I am contacting you. Despite timeous payment of premiums for the house insurance, we have had absolutely no co-operation with our claim. (Ref ***)

· Initial claim was lodged on the 06 April 2016 for a burst water pipe in bathroom.

· The pipe was fixed around the 15 April 2016 by plumbers (R500 paid to them) – this was after the 1st company could not find a leak. A 2nd plumber from another company came out and detected a leak. He advised it was along the shower wall. When they came to fix the leak, they chopped open the wall only to discover the leak was not in the wall. They detected the leak outside of the shower along the floor.

· The shower wall and floor was standing chopped open since then to date.

· Digicall Assessing Solutions also took another 2 weeks to assess the damage – which was also like pulling teeth, as they do not come out after hours or on weekends. Eventually they agreed to see me on a Friday evening.

· We were advised that on 17 May 2016 that repairs would be done by MSA Home Repairs , scheduled for 23-26 May 2016. We put in leave for the full week only to be disappointed once again. They told us that they would start at 10.30am on Monday 23rd May. After nobody pitched by 11am, WE had to call them to discover the gentleman was in an accident and he would not be coming that day. They rescheduled for the following day.

· We also received a phone call from Top Carpets on 19 May 2016 arranging an appointment to meet on 23rd May 2016, followed up by a confirmation sms. Once again, we waited for Top carpets until after 12pm to arrive, no call to advise of delay, WE had to contact them.

· 24th May 2016 –MSA Home repairs arrives close to 11am, shocked that we have no tile chosen. Are we meant to purchase the tile or ABSA? How can work repairs be arranged with a date set (23-26 May 2016) with no necessary equipment?? Surely this is pre-work that needs to be seen to in advance? On that day, I had to run around for a suitable tile, within a budget, which was not an easy task. After not being able to meet the budget constraints, I asked MSA Home Repairs to provide me with options. They did some prep work on that day – knocking out the wall and floor tiles in the shower (breaking 3 in the process) – we cannot find the same tile as it has been discontinued, seems my bathroom will look like a bizarre after all this.

· 25 May 2016 – MSA Home repairs arrives after 11am to fetch my husband to take him to choose a tile, also with no luck around the budget. We contacted Digicall as well as Absa to request an increase, which was declined.

· Since then it’s been such a mission to get anything done – bearing in mind that we have taken leave from work to accommodate for this, with no joy. They agreed to do the painting in the meantime on the Friday 27 may 2016.

· To date, that is all that has been done. – I have sent MSA Home Repairs a picture of a suitable tile, within the budget. Arranged with them to start tiling on Sa****ay 04 June 2016 only to hear that they got stuck at the tile place, after my plans had to be cancelled to accommodate them once again. They arranged to do the job on Sunday 05 June 2016, no call to cancel or advise to reschedule (another day on stand-by for them, another day wasted).

Digicall Assessing Solutions called me today to advise that MSA Home Repairs would be in contact with me today, it’s almost 3pm, no word....no surprise. I have asked DAS if theycan please request another company to complete the job and thet advised that they cannot do that.

I have been without a shower since mid April 2016. Having to wash kids in a basin with winter now in full swing is cruel and uncomfortable. My son has been hospitalised with a chest infection, and I plan to approach the doctors involved to ascertain if being forced to bath him outside a shower would exacerbate his condition. Would ABSA accept liability in this regard?

I cannot afford to take more leave and cannot wait until the weekend to have this sorted. Myself, my employer and my family have been beyond patient in this regard but this is ridiculous. I do not want to be part of a blame game. Between yourselves, Digicall and the repairers you need to sort this out. I want this resolved immediately. I trusted ABSA with my insurance, I should not be the one running around after *********** repairers at my expense. If this is not sorted, I will take the matter further and approach the Ombudsman and I intend to seek compensation for the financial damages of your incompetency.

I expect to be contacted today with a solution.

Hi Daphne,
It has not been resolved yet. I have tried avoiding approaching the Ombudsman but it feels like ive been left with no other alternative. If you can resolve this i will appreciate it and hold off on my complaint with the Ombudsman.
