I need my id number to make a deposit?

Good day. I had a cash deposit to make into a body corporate account. I have been paying this account in cash for more than a number of years. Today I was told I cannot make a deposit without giving my id number and full name. This is crazy. What, am I applying for a loan? All I want to do is make a deposit. The teller who was very friendly happened to call the manager for me, Sbongile Mntambo, who basically gave me the "I don't give a dam" attitude. I asked what would happen if u provide a false id number and she said it's fine. Is this a ****? With ***** so rife in the banking sector, how can I not think this is a easy way to get all my personal details and pass the buck if something happens. I will probably be told, why did you give out that information and then absa will hold me liable. If this in fact not a ****, I would have to find other ways of working with Absa clients as I am not comfortable giving out this information every time I have to pay into a Absa account. Today I deposited the money into capitec and will do an eft from capitec to Absa. In future as for the body corporate account, your Southdale branch will never see me again, and ad for all the people/companies that provide services for me, I would have to insist on another bank if required to pay by cash.
