Humiliated and laughed at in Absa branch

I made use of the Absa banking app to apply for an Absa Gold Account. Everything went fine initially. I was contacted by Sunette B who was very helpful and I sent her my FICA documents. Everything was sorted and she told me that I can now go to any Absa branch to pick up my card which will be activated in the branch. I went to Absa Robertson twice during weekdays between 13:00 and 14:00 as this was the only time I was free (during my lunchtime from work). At the enquiries counter there are 3 stations. Only one was in operation and each time I waited about 20-30 minutes before I gave up and had to go as I had to be back at work in time. The first time I was told that the staff also have to go on lunch and that is the reason why only one staff member was available at the enquiries desk to assist everyone who can only visit the branch during lunchtime. The second time I was asked to come back on the Saturday morning because I don't work on Saturdays. On Saturday I went back and this time two staff members were on duty even though there are 3 work stations and a lot of customers piling up in the queue. When I got my turn, I explained to the staff member (Racheline October) that I app**** online and was told to go to a branch to pick up my card. At first it looked as if she didn't believe me that it could be done like that. After asking me repeatedly at what branch did I open the account, and I continued to state it was an online application, I handed her my ID. She looked my ID number up on the system and my application was there to issue my card. Even though I have already sent my FICA documents to Sunette, I was asked for my proof of residence again. I gave my Telkom account, but Racheline was not satisfied with it. She said that it was not acceptable as my address stated the town where I reside, under that the area, and then the postal code. According to her, FICA won't accept it if the sequence it not area, then town, then postal code. I then presented my monthly rent invoice from the local estate agents and she would also not accept that. I asked her if she could try and send the Telkom invoice as it was accepted by the online application department and I have also used it elsewhere to FICA a bank account as well. She started laughing to me in my face and asked me where I used it. I told her at FNB. (I wanted to move to Absa as my FNB Premier account bank charges were sky high). She then started to explain to me that they are not FNB, they are Absa and that FNB is inferior in the way that they will even accept a doctor's account as proof of residence. I thought it was unprofessional to refer to FNB as inferior because of their different policies. She then looked at the other staff member at the enquiries station and they both started laughing as if the matter was very funny. I asked her once again to use the Telkom account. She said that she won't because if it comes back not accepted, it would reflect negative on her record at Absa, and she repeatedly asked me in an impolite manner how I would be able to fix her bad record should it happen. She then phoned her supervisor and put the phone on loudspeaker. Everybody in the queue behind me could hear how she was asking the supervisor how should she explain the situation to the client. She was still laughing and acting as if I was unintelligent as I "did not understand" what she was saying. I felt insulted as I am a professional person and I did not deserve to be treated like that. I told her that I get it, and she should rather cancel the whole application. She started laughing again in my face and told me that she cannot do that and I should tell her how she is supposed to do that. She then started to explain to me that the application will expire automatically if a bank card is not issued and activated. I told her I understand, I just did not want to be liable for any charges. She laughed and asked me why there would be charges. I told her that I already received emails to welcome me to Absa Dining and that I was under the impression that an account number was already allocated to me. She continued laughing and told me that it did not work like that. I left Absa feeling disappointed and humiliated, and I wasted my time. Never in my life has someone laugh to my face so much and in such a rude manner. I will never become an Absa client, you can be sure of that. I am starting my own business within the next 6 months and considered Absa as a good option for a small business account. Needless to say, I don't consider them any more.
