HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH ABSA BANK AFTER SETTLING MY LOAN ACCOUNT
I took out a loan from ABSA bank on the 1st September 2022 for an amount of R300,000.00. On the 06th of December I called and requested the settlement amount, a lady answered and informed me that I needed to pay an amount of R306,342.93 to settle the account, of which I did at exactly 14:55:22 on the same day, I have the proof of payment. FYI the lady never informed me that since I was paying from a different bank I needed to do a pay and clear so I did not. She also did not inform me that for the account to be closed off I needed to call after 24hrs and check if the payment reflected, I should inform you that I am not banking with absa. On the 15th of Jan 2023 a debit order amount of R770.56 was debited from my account by absa, I called them but I could not get through so I forgot about it and moved on. To my surprise, again on the 14 Feb 2023 another debit order went through for an amount of R770.60. I called and spoke to a lady named Londeka or Londiwe, I explained my situation and she informed me that the account was settled but I should have called after 24hrs of paying but that she will make a note and escalate the matter and that she would call me back on the same day to let me know what was going on and she promised me that absa will REFUND ME. I waited for her call but she never called back. Then a surprising turn of events, I get an email from absa on the 17 March 2023 informing me that my account had been handed over to the legal department cause it's in arrears and they gave me a number to call. So obviously I was shocked cause I was still waiting for them to investigate, no call or text about any arrears and suddenly it's with the legal department, unheard of, no calls enquiring about any non-payment and I am guessing the call I placed enquiring about the 2 debit orders after I had settled the account were disregarded, just straight to ruining my credit record, I have a document Infront of me FROM ABSA saying I quote "OCS Risk Type: BAD DEBT, OCS Collection Code: COURT-ORD" so THANKS ABSA FOR THAT. I called the number for the legal department and spoke to a Mr Abrams (I think that was his name) he then requested that I email him the proof of payment, I went as far as sending him screen shots of the 2 debit orders and I got an auto reply confirming that they received the email, I waited for about a few hrs then called again and I was told that he went to lunch or something and that he would get back to me but obviously he never did, instead a few days later another lady from absa called to tell me about the account that is in arrears, which I think should have been done before the legal department and ruining my credit score. I angrily explained the situation and she too said she would make a note to which I responded with "You all promise to make notes" obviously at this point I am angry beyond comprehension. Oh and she said I should go to the branch of which I went there today, the lady at the branch called absa on the phone, the same absa that told me I should go to the branch where I would be assisted and the very annoyed lady on the phone told us that the account was never closed and I am paying for the "insurance" which protects an account incase someone dies and what not so my question is but how? what am I protecting when I have settled the account, so I then had to pay an additional amount of R1,352.84. Absa hides information so that they can continue chowing your money, you get bits of information so that you keep running around, they don't respond to calls nor emails and just giving you a run around and keep promising to make notes, even now I have no idea if my account is paid up or not. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!
