Get your FICA department in order!!

As requested by ABSA via email, I submitted my FICA docs on 15 September 2016, and on the same day I received a reply email stating that documents have been received. Somewhere between then and the beginning of November I received a phone call from a guy that said he was calling from ABSA, and he needs to confrim my FICA information. I was not prepared to give him any information over the phone and told him that I already submmitted my information. I also told him that I was working and that he could call again after five o'clock. This, offcourse, did not happen. All of this being done, I didn't think twice about any of this, since my part was done.

Today, I drew money from the ATM, something I never do, and the ATM said that I need to FICA. I went into our branch right next door (Waverley Plaza, Pretoria). If I remember correctly the lady that helped me was Debora. She said that I need to resubmit my documents as the proof of address did not have a FSP number on it.

As I don't have any other documents to give them, I returned with my dad so he could fill in some form to declare that I live with them. Again the same lady said that we had the wrong documents as a municipal account needs to be the original posted on or an email stating that the document was emailed to us.

I don't know when was the last time that you dealt with the post office, but we NEVER receive any statements for anything in the post. Furthermore, no email is sent with a municipal bill; you simply log on to eTshwane and download the statement. This works the same with any other subscription, DSTV, Vodacom, medical aid, investments. On my first visit to the branch I asked if a Vodacom statement would do and she said yes and then asked if it is emailed to us. I answered that it isn't , and that I will have to download it from their website. With that information we left, she never stated that it would not be accepted as we need an email. You need to compile a detailed list of everything that we can and cannot submit, as it seems that it is to comprehensive for your employees to remember and also send this list with the email requesting the documents.

At the branch I was informed that it takes three times longer to FICA via email (it has been 4 months now). Why even have this option if you don't recomend us using it.

To put my frustration even more in context, my account was frozen three years ago because "I didn't FICA", but I never received any notification to do so, I was alone, away from home, with no means of getting around. So thanks for giving me the joy to deal with this mess once again. The next few days are holidays and you better not freeze my account.
