Funeral policy not paying out

I took out a funeral policy for my mother in 2003, the policy was taken out on the telephone and I received confirmation of it. The policy has been debited from my account every month from then without fail.

My mother passed away yesterday and when I contacted ABSA Life to recover the money to pay for her funeral and was told that due to the fact that there is no beneficiary listed on the policy they will no pay out.

In all the years they have been debiting the account we were never contacted about this. How can you have a policy that cannot pay out. Surely they can pay into the accout that was debited every month. Also I know that I was named as the beneficiary as I am her daughter and was paying the policy and would arrange the funeral.

I am going throght the touhest time of my life and I find their attitude most unhelpful and inapropriate

After asking for a copy of the policy I have still not received anything from ABSA Life. One must wonder why they could not offer to pay the funeral home directly???

And so the saga continues. After being contacted by ABSA yesterday and told I would be emailed a claim form to submit, although this is no guarantee of payment, and I have still not received anything.
