On 17/12/2019 around 10:30 I attempted to make an immediate payment of R600.00 from my Absa Cheque account on the Absa app to an FNB account. The first attempt “failed” and I assumed this was due to me not having enough funds in my account to make the payment immediate. I proceeded to make this payment from my credit card account and the payment went through.
Later on the same day (around 15:00) I receive a notification that the payment, which initially “failed” from my cheque account has now also gone through. This was clearly a problem with the Absa app.
I went to Absa Maponya mall on 18/12/2019 and was assisted by Sphamandla who assure me that the payment from my credit card account would not permit and only the payment from the Cheque account would go through, he even gave me a print out stating that only one payment would go through. He notified me that I should see the money back in the account within an hour of leaving the bank.
On 19/12/2019 the money was still not back, I went back to Absa Maponya Mall and Sphamandla told me that the payment had actually gone through and he would have to contact the payee to see how to resolve this.
I went back to the bank on 30/12/2019 and the issue had still not been resolved, I was told that the ***** department would have to be contacted to resolve the issue and they would only open on 06/01/2020... I went back to the bank on 08/01/2020 and there still isn’t a way forward or any reassurance of me getting my money back.
I spend over an hour at the bank on each occurrence and it is really not fair how Absa treats it’s customers, this was an issue with the Absa app and therefore should be resolved ASAP!
