On 2 August all my money was **********ly transferred out of my bank account into an unknown savings account.
After the bank investigated the matter, they offered "as a valued Absa customer we would like to make an offer of a goodwill payment" and also "we require you to keep the payment confidential".
After having reported the matter to SAPS, the investigating officer told me that the majority of cases that they are investigating currently involved Absa.
When I refused to accept their "offer" or view the matter as confidential, they said that they would do a further investigation. This time they reached the conclusion that "no funds were recovered" and that they were going to stick to their previous "offer".
The facts: My bank card was safe and sound in my purse. I was not online when the money disappeared. I did not give my login information to anybody. I did not click on any email links.
My questions: Can I not expect from Absa to keep my money safe? Is Absa not insured against such losses? Does Absa not have the IT capability to determine where the money went? Should we not be warned by the bank that they cannot keep any deposited money safe?
