***** department, appalling service. the entire bank, terrible service!!!!
In April, on a weekend, i received notifications of multiple transactions of over R100 000 on my credit card at multiple places in Soweto, where i have never been. I called the stop card number and was put on hold until my airtime died. i went to the bank the following day to stop my card and report the *****. i was then told that the matter will be investigated and i will receive feedback in 3 - 5 days. A week later, after receiving no feedback, i went back to the Absa in jhb central where i was on the phone for 40minutes, 30 of those minutes i was on hold. I was then told by a lady at the ***** department that my matter would be investigated, and I would receive feedback in 5 - 7 working days and i would have to lodge a CCP claim and investigation. this, after i was told i already had a ccp number by the last person i spoke to, only to find out it was never lodged on the system. a week later i went to Absa again to enquire what is happening and i was assured my matter was being investigated, i was given the number of the investigating offiver and told to call him if i recieved no word within 7 days. I also asked whether i would be getting any deductions from my account as i kept getting statements saying a deduction of R117 000 would be deducted from my credit card. i was assured that since my card had been stopped, no deduction woyld take place. Needless to say, as i expected, R117 000 was deducted from my account a few days later. Bear in mind, i make R9000 a month, i was no R110 000 in debt from money i know nothing about. note further that my credit card limit is R22 500, so i do not understand how that much money was taken from my card without anyone asking for my consent.
I went to the bank once again where i made the call to the ***** department yet again, and asked them to reverse the transfer and revert back to me as i had to pay rent the following day.
i called the investigating officers number that i was given, only to be told that he was not an investigating officer and he did not understand why i had been given his details as he only works with card collection. The deduction was reversed and later that day the real investigating officer called to tell me that my chip and pin was used to deduct that amount from my credit card and therefore that means the ***** department will no longer be involved. when i asked him how so much money was taken from my credit card when my credit limit is only R22 500, he told me there is a way, he explained that it is possible to withdraw money over the limit and it will only reflect later, once the damage had been done. when i asked how, i received no response. Only another email address to lodge my query with and add more delays. i am now receiving a statement that says i owe absa close to R150 000.
to make matters worse, there is credit card insurance that i cancelled 2 days after agreeing with absa, till this day, i am still getting charged for that. its funny how, when they wanted me to sign up for this, they called me every 30 seconds, now that i want to cancel it, i get the run around.
i have sent my grievances to the email addresses i was given last month and told i will recieve feedback soon. up until today, the only feedback i have received is a statement from absa saying i owe R150 000. How when i earn R9000 a month?????????
