During the month of December, my information was hacked and I was the victim of *****. I had a separate Gmail account that I used for work purposes, that was linked to a PayPal account I had. On the 18th of December, an amount was debited from my Absa account, that I was completely unaware of, from a business outside the country. I immediately called Absa's ***** hotline and reported the incident. Two days later, my PayPal account was also debited with a different amount to the same company. After I claimed the debited amount on my Paypal account was **********, I was later contacted by the company that debited the amount, concerned as to why I was claiming the amount **********. It had turned out someone used my email account to pay for a subscription the company offers and paid using both my Absa debit card and my Paypal account with my email address. After deleting the Paypal account, cutting up my card, getting a new one at the bank and even changing my pin, and subsequently deleting the email account, I waited for my refunds.
Now I am a student. I do some work with companies who pay via Paypal, to make some income to pay for some expenses. So for over R1600 to be taken from me, was a bit of a hit for me. Thankfully the company refunded the amount that was taken from my PayPal account, and later Absa refunded the amount debited from my account. Here is where my problem begins: On the 18th of this month, unbeknownst to me, Absa took back the refunded amount. Without informing me, or calling me. No communication whatsoever. This is just disrespectful and quite frankly unacceptable. I let it go when the amount was debited from my account when I was not given a one time pin or authorization for an online payment to go through.
Absa this is disappointing and not the service I expected.
