***** and Identity theft through ABSA bank

This is actually a review of three companies complicit in ***** and identity theft, these companies are Mondo (Rewardsco), MTN and ABSA. So this month my wife gets a notification on her phone that a debit order to the value of R1269 and some cents has been debited from her account. This is interesting as we have been resident in Dubai for the last four years and she no longer uses this account for anything other than debit orders for a couple of top up cellphone accounts (with Vodacom because MTN has always sucked) and some insurance policies. We call ABSA to find out what is going on, and they inform us that the debit order is for an MTN account. My wife asks to reverse the debit order. In order to do this she must answer security questions. OK. She has not used this account for anything other than to deposit enough to cover the debit orders for 4 years and somehow fails one of the security questions. They cant help... She needs to go into the branch to reverse the debit order and cancel the debit order. Wait! What? You want me to buy a R16000 plane ticket so that she can get on a flight to South Africa, book into a hotel, rent a car just to cancel a debit order which is in place only because ABSA allows any Tom, **** and Harry to put a Debit order through on its clients accounts without checking that the request is valid? I dont think so. This is the rest of the conversation (truncated): Me: Can I speak to your supervisor... Call centre: Sorry, he is in a meeting. Me: Can I speak to someone above him then... Call centre: Sorry he is also in the meeting. Me: Who of the more senior personnel is not in the meeting? Call centre: I dont know. Me; You are not particularly helpful, can I get your name please? Call centre: ..... *click* .... *phone dead tone* Well done ABSA, you have stooped to new lows: It is obvious that anyone can send through a ********** debit order and ABSA will deduct it from the account thereby making ABSA complicit in the de*****ing of their clients. Your ***** line is beyond useless So I would advise caution to anyone who is concerned about ***** or identity theft from using ABSA as a banking institution. You may be concerned but ABSA really doesnt seem to care and make themselves complicit in the practice through negligence.

So my question is this, how on earth does absa put a debit order through on someone’s account without a piece of paper signed BY THE ACCOUNTHOLDER? It is now certain that this is all the product of a ********** transaction. How is it then that ABSA did not notice that the signature on the debit order request did not match that of the accountholder? So either ABSA is also a willfully complicit in the ***** or they are ***********. I am not sure I want *********** people handling my financial affairs, do you?
