Four Emails, No Assistance, No Customer Care – Goodbye Absa

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from Absa regarding my home loan.

As a loyal customer who has always made my payments on time and maintained my account in good standing, I approached the bank for temporary financial relief due to the rising cost of living, increasing interest rates, fuel costs, and other financial pressures.

What makes this even more frustrating is that Absa’s website promotes assistance and support for customers experiencing financial difficulties. Based on this information, I believed that I would receive guidance and practical options to help me through a temporary financial challenge. Unfortunately, this was not my experience.

After sending four emails explaining my circumstances and requesting assistance, I still did not receive any meaningful support or practical solutions. Instead, I was repeatedly asked for further motivation despite already providing detailed explanations of my situation. The responses felt generic and gave the impression that my concerns were not being properly considered.

I understand that banks have policies and procedures, but I expected a greater level of customer care and a willingness to assist a customer with a proven payment history. Unfortunately, the process was frustrating, impersonal, and lacked empathy.

This experience has left me feeling that customer loyalty is not valued. After four emails and no meaningful assistance, I have decided to move my home loan to another bank that is willing to support its customers and provide better service.

I hope Absa takes customer feedback seriously and aligns the assistance it advertises with the service customers actually receive.

Thank you for your email.

I am extremely concerned by the contradictory information I am receiving from Absa.

Yesterday, I received a telephone call from your Home Loans department and was informed that assistance could be provided. I was further advised that the relevant information and documentation would be sent to me. However, your email now states that no assistance can be provided.

What is going on? One person is telling me one thing, while another person is telling me something completely different. This is confusing, frustrating, and unacceptable.

Furthermore, I do not agree with your statement that you have assisted me or that I should be satisfied with the outcome. At this stage, my matter has not been resolved, and I have not received the information that I was promised during the telephone call.

I would also like to point out that the reasons provided in your email do not appear to align with the information published on your website regarding assistance options available to home loan customers. I respectfully request that you take the time to review the information available on your own website and explain why the information I am receiving from your staff differs from what is publicly communicated by Absa.

I therefore request that this complaint remain open until a clear and consistent explanation is provided regarding the assistance that was discussed with me yesterday, as well as the information that I was advised would be sent to me.

To date, I have not received any meaningful assistance, nor has a solution been provided. As such, I cannot agree that this complaint should be closed.

I look forward to your urgent response.

Please also investigate who contacted me yesterday and review the recording of that conversation. During the call, I was assured that assistance would be provided and that the necessary information would be sent to me.

At this stage, I am receiving different answers from different people, which is extremely frustrating and confusing. There appears to be no consistency in the information being provided, and despite numerous interactions, my matter has still not been resolved.

I am disappointed by the level of service I have received throughout this process. Based on my experience, I will be moving my home loan to another bank, and I will certainly share my experience with others.

Goodbye, Absa.

Please close this complaint.

My intention in raising this matter was to obtain assistance and clear, consistent information regarding my home loan query. Unfortunately, throughout this process I have received conflicting information from different representatives. I was contacted and informed that assistance would be provided and that further information would be sent to me, yet I have since received different responses that contradict what was communicated.

As a result, I have lost confidence in Absa’s ability to provide reliable customer service and support. I will therefore be exploring alternative banking options and intend to move my home loan to another bank.

Based on my experience, I will no longer be conducting business with Absa and will not be recommending Absa to my family, friends, or colleagues.

Please consider this complaint closed.

You did not provide any service or assistance to resolve my matter. I believe I will receive far better service from another bank.

Perhaps you should take some time to review your own website and the products and assistance it states are available to customers, because my experience has been completely different.

At this point, I am done discussing this matter. I am done dealing with this complaint process, and I am done doing business with Absa.
