I had bought a 2009 Opel Corsa Utility 1.8 sport from a dealership named AutoBest in Kuilsrivier,Cape Town on the 13th January 2011 at the time, an ABSA approved dealership. I had my previous vehicle financed by ABSA and had good service. I decided to go and finance the Utility with ABSA. I had no problem with vehicle, until I tried to sell it in July 2003. I found a buyer for the vehicle who wanted to finance it with Wesbank. Wesbank called me to get the vehicle particulars, which I gave. Wesbank, after doing a verification check on the vehicle called to tell me that they are cancelling the sale, due to the fact that the vehicle is a code 3. I was completely shocked. I asked Wesbank to send me the vehicle verification report. The report showed the vehicle was assessed in 2010 with damages to the value of R100 070.28. The vehicle was written off. I called ABSA vehicle finance to enquire, if they finance code 3 vehicles. They stated no. I asked how do you ensure this, as I have code 3 vehicle financed by ABSA. I explained the history of my ownership and that Wesbank had done a verification check. ABSA denied any liability saying they did not inspect the vehicle.
