FICA LOCKS ABSA ESTATE LATE ACCOUNT ON EXISTING CLIENT

I was appointed as the Executor of my recently deceased mother's estate. My mom has been a client of Absa Bank's for many years and was completely FICA compliant up to the of her death in September 2016.

According to Absa Bank, if a decease person has more than five thousand Rand in an Absa account, an Estate Late account has to be opened. This Estate Late account opening necessity I understand, given increasing ***** in South Africa. What I fail to understand is when Absa Bank alert FICA of the new Estate Late account opened on their 'existing' fully FICA compliant client, now deceased, FICA places a lock on the account and declares it to be a "New Account applicant, person not known by Bank"!!! FICA apparently requires the previously Fica Compliant individual to provide up-to-date contact telephone number and proof of residence/utility bill, since they no longer reside at their previous address!!!!! . Since my mother was cremated on the 29th September 2016, I have sadly lost contact with her and do not have any idea if anyone has the contact phone number for the "Here-in-after life" or how I get her new "proof of address"!

As regards the Estate Late Department of Absa Bank, the manageress Cindy Stoltz appears never to be in her office to answer any phone calls or assist with escalated urgent queries which have been passed on to her by her department staff members (as assured to me by them) . I reside overseas, my mother's Estate is under R100K and I have already required to change my return flights home twice at USA Dollar penalty costs to me. I was told by Absa Estate Late department that all documents sent in by me are 100% in order and finalised but they cannot give me authority/release the Estate Late account for distribution to 5 heirs until the FICA LOCK on the account is lifted. This frankly, is abominable .

Nthabiseng Sibande, I sent you a reply last week: Copied and pasted here:

Nthabiseng Sibande or HEAD of Customer Services Absa Bank Ltd. Kindly let me have your contact details so that I can pass them on to Mrs. Elaine Cilliers ( ********** 840) of River Square (Three Rivers) Vereeniging Absa who is desperately trying to get this matter sorted but ABSA "new Computer system" keeps deleting all the documents which get successfully scanned into the account. I am due to leave the Country in 4 days time and cannot change my ticket home (I live overseas) a THIRD TIME because of Absa's computer technology 'teething' problems!! Kindly respond today. /You can contact Elaine Cilliers directly or speak to her manager (both of whom are at a loss with Absa Bank problems!) to get this FICA lock lifted. Estate Late have all the documents and all is in Order only FICA refuses to lift the lock because documents mailed/scanned and repeatedly scanned NUMEROUS times disappear off ABSA system and don't arrive at FICA!!!!!

NOTE: Absolutely NOTHING has been done by Absa Estate Late and FICA, although Elaine Cilliers has uploaded ALL documents previously scanned through (originals of which were sent by tracking Bank mail) more than 5 times!!!! The documents 'disappear' off ABSA computers!!!! FICA was sent, by special request from Elaine Cilliers of River Square Absa, ALL the documents by email and 'a lady' confirmed to Elaine that all had been received and would be checked and then the 'FICA LOCK' would be lifted without delay. That was on Friday last week.... result:- DEAFENING SILENCE and the FICA LOCK remains . I leave the country in 2 days time and I cannot change my international ticket a THIRD time because of this absolutely rediculous state of affairs! Would I recommend Absa to anyone as an efficient, user friendly bank?? ABSOLUTELY NOT! It appears that anyone who reaches any position of seniority with Absa Bank hides behind a phone number that is NEVER answered (if there is even a phone number to call!!!!), NO EMAILS are ever rep**** to and the menial labourers who are the front line bank officers in the local branches have to 'deal' with the disgruntled unhappy clients. APPALING! Can you as a Customer Care representative categorically state what positive action can be taken to a) even contact anyone at FICA (or is this just a name and no one actually does any work there i.e. sheltered employment for a gravy train employee who probably isn't in their office EVER and doesn't even know how to work a computer other than use it 100% of the time for social media contact with their friends, as NO WORK EMAILS from colleagues in their own banking system are rep**** or responded to and this goes for the managers of ABSA e.g. Cindy Stoltz who has yet to reply to my 'Urgent assistance asked for please' on the 21 November!)
