Fees/Service/Internet issues; lack of ATM's'; COSTS

I am concerned by the experiences I have recently had with ABSA :-(

(1) Two months ago I was charged between R200-R300 for downloading statements (I was not even aware that it would come at an expense). All I wanted was to search for mortgage payments made in the past 6 months and I had to pay a small fortune for the information.

There is a lack of ATM's in the whole of JHB South but at the Spar the ATM's are locked up and are expected to function properly. NOT ABSA. They charged me R30.95 for a R2,000 withdrawal. The ATM did not dispense the money so ABSA was kind enough to credit the R2,000 back into my account at a further cost of R30.95. Because the machine was not working and I needed the cash, I was forced to draw money from the FNB ATM right next to the ABSA one, ABSA was kind enough to charga me a further R36.95 for the R2,000 withdrawal (due to no fault of my own, I accordingly paid a few cents short of R100 for one ATM transaction within 15 minutes).

Last night I bought PREPAID electricity on the app. The funds were taken from my ABSA account (R250.00) and I verified the transaction. Whilst loading there was supposedly a sudden technical issue and I did not receive my R250 token. ANOTHER DONATION TO ABSA. Where is my money or electricity??

Here is a short description of charges and fees for a little over ONE month and this is in addition to my debit order charges, transaction charges, notification charges, online fees and whatever else.

02/06 Withdrawal R800.00 – Transaction Charge R17.75

03/06 Admin Fee – R16.00

04/06 Withdrawal – R1,000.00 – Transaction Charge R17.45

04/06 Notification fee – R12.65

05/06 Withdrawal R1,600 – Transaction Charge – R25.55

09/06 – Witdhrawal R2,000.00 – Transaction Charge – R30.95 THE ATM DID NOT RELEASE THE R2,000.00 – ABSA credited the R2,000.00 back into my account because ABSA ATM not working and charged me ANOTHER R30.95. I had to draw the money which I had still not gotten from the ABSA ATM (without any warning or notification etc. which seems common-place for ABSA nowadays or shall I pay R16.95 for the notification privilege because ABSA’s ATM did not dispense the cash?) from the FNB ATM next to ABSA and then ABSA charged me yet another R36.95 because I had to get my money AND get it from another ATM!!

14/06 Withdrawal – R1,000.00 – Transaction Charge – R20.45

30/06 Internet bank fee R40.50

03/07 Administration fee R16.00

05/07 Notification fee R14.85

For another bonus round:-

18/07 – Electricity Prepaid – the amount went off my account but then there was suddenly a technical issue and my token was never delivered for the meter. I had to load R50 again (which went through) just to keep my electricity on and pay MORE charges. Where is my R250.00 electricity which has been purchased?

I am disgusted – I do not earn a fortunate and have to donate a large chunk to ABSA monthly – some due to their crazy fee structure and some because of a lack of care and facilities by ABSA whilst they rake in fees and charges.

I hope somebody will be able to assist me by lessening these charges or refunding some of the fees to my account (especially my lost R250.00 LOST ELECTRICITY MONEY), otherwise ABSA will be forcing me to close my account and go to FNB. When I do so, I will definitely also contact the OMBUDSMAN and the newspapers. This is one long-standing customer who is NO LONGER a satisfied customer (if that even matters to ABSA at all nowadays).
