Faulty Mobile APP
ABSA forces e to accept their new online banking security procedure. This involves that I should load their Mobile APP and do some kind of verification. All good in principle and I am happy that my bank takes my online security serious. However, this is what happened:
step 1: click on a link to receive a SMS with a link to the mobile APP Result: get SSM and follow instructions so far so good
step 2: install said app Result: app that the link points to is apparently outdated according to the Microsoft store (yes I have a Microsoft phone but that is not the issue here). Solution: find latest app (independent of SMS link) and install so far so good
Step 3: open app and verify by means of scanning a QR code or entering a 9 digit code Result: open app successfully enter needed credentials. Process come to a grinding halt when the app refuses to recognize the QR code presented on screen. After many, many attempts switch to entering the code. App respond with message that i have not entered a 9 digit code. i count the digits, it is 9 digits, app refuse to agree. repeat process many, many times. click cancel, try QR scanning again - QR code expires on screen - restart process. and so on and so on. give up in frustration. Absa optimistically request a survey of my experience. Give opinion, receive a promise that i will be contacted. still waiting..
Step 4: do banking result: because the verification process does not work I cannot do any internet banking. No helpline on the App that offers assistance. the link that promise assistance to QR scanning issues does not work.
conclusion: a forced security protocol update contains critical errors. i have no control of the process, and i am sure i followed every step carefully. no cannot do any banking... On my way to my branch to close my account, hope that they are open.
