Failure to close Account via Call Centre. No additional fees will be paid on my end.

ABSA website clearly states: “To close your account you can call customer service or visit the branch”. I called the customer centre to be assisted with the closing of this account because absa has decided to add a weekly SMS notification that I don’t need and charges me R16.37 weekly. Every transaction has R8.50 charge. While I tried to turn of this notification service via online banking, it stated “you are limited to only seeing notifications, not the management”. How is that so? I am therefore in desperate need to close this account. But to my dismay, the customer call centre agent spent 10 minutes saying she wants to verify my account, after that verification she says “what do you want to check?”, whilst I clearly told her at the beginning of the call that I want to close the account. When I corrected her, she arrogantly said “Well, sorry. You can only close the account at the branch.” How pathetic. In this day and age? Has vivid not taught you anything? What if I am out of the country? My account number is ***, please note that I will not pay any additional closing fees if you have failed to close this account by today. The bank will keep pilling up the charges until they decide to close it because I am abandoning this account as of today since no one from the ABSA Bank wants to close.
