Failed payment reversal for a normal payment made with my banking app
I made a payment of R7 200 into an FNB account holder's account for deposit and first month rental for a flat in Durban on the 27th of December 2024 at 14:00. The alleged landlord immediately switched off his phone, after I sent him the text message showing proof of payment so I headed to the nearest absa branch in Hillcrest to request a payment reversal. As I had made a normal payment and not an immediate on I was advised to email the internet banking department explaining my situation. I assumed that having reported the incident 1 hour after I had made the payment all would be resolved and I would get my funds back into my account. On Monday 6th January 2025 I received a call from cedric from Absa ***** division to inform me that my bank was unable to reverse the transaction and cedric insisted that I had made an immediate payment on my banking app which meant the money cleared immediately into said account. I am extremely disappointed with the poor service received from my bank and what is worse is how I was made to feel that this was all my fault and my bank has no responsibility whatsoever for what went down. The payment was made on a Friday at 2pm reported at 3pm, emailed to their internet banking department and still nothing was done until the 6th of January 2025 when I received feedback from the ***** department. I was told by an absa consultant that my money is safer in an institution like absa rather than my other bank, but at the other bank that transaction would have been reversed immediately no fuss.
