Executor Delays and No Interim Maintenance for Minor Beneficiaries

I have attempted to resolve this matter directly with Absa Trust over the past few months, and most recently through formal written communication, but have not received a meaningful response.

This concern relates to the administration of an estate where minor beneficiaries are involved. Despite multiple engagements, there has been no implementation of interim maintenance for the children. This is now directly affecting their daily welfare, most importantly their schooling, as well as food and transport.

Initially, the position communicated was that no action could be taken pending the issuance of Letters of Authority. These were issued on 27 February 2026. Since then, the estate administration has progressed in certain respects, including steps toward the sale of the immovable property. However, there has been no clear explanation of how the maintenance obligations toward the minor beneficiaries, as provided for in the will, are being addressed during this period. A further concern is that interim maintenance appears to be linked to the sale of a specific asset (the estate vehicle), with no clarity provided on whether alternative liquidity assessments or interim funding mechanisms have been considered.

While I understand that estate administration takes time, there appears to be a disconnect between the progression of asset administration, and the absence of interim support for minor beneficiaries. This has resulted in ongoing hardship. I have requested clarity from Absa Trust on: the mechanism for implementing maintenance obligations the basis for withholding interim maintenance and what interim provision is being made for the children, particularly in relation to schooling.

At this stage, I am seeking: a clear and consistent position a timeline for resolution and confirmation of how the welfare of the minor beneficiaries is being addressed during the estate administration process. I would appreciate urgent intervention and a formal response.
